J. Cole’s new album K.O.D. is getting high praise since its release on Friday, and is expected to make a big impact on the charts next week. The project has already made an impact numbers wise, as the title track has broken the Spotify U.S. record for biggest opening day. Serving as the album’s intro, “KOD” was streamed 4.2 million times on Spotify, smashing the previous record of 3.8 million set by Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.” Cole World takes the top spot surpassing Swift, Kendrick Lamar’s “DNA.” (3.6 million), Cole’s own “Photograph” (3.55 million) and The Weeknd’s “Call Out My Name” (3.5 million).
Both the album and title track are set to make big debuts on the Billboard 200 album chart and Hot 100 chart next Monday (Apr. 30). The news comes one day after the North Carolina native dropped a music video for the song “ATM.”
Produced by Murda Beatz, the track samples Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill classic “Ex-Factor.” The record was previously teased by Ms. Hill’s son, who posted a snippet of the song (then called “Showin’ Off”) on social media. “Nice For What” serves as a follow-up to Drake’s “God’s Plan,” the record-breaking smash-hit that has spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Along with the new record, Drake drops the empowering music video directed by Karena Evans. The visual features an all-star cast of leading ladies including Olivia Wilde, Misty Copeland, Issa Rae, Rashida Jones, Jourdan Dunn, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tiffany Haddish, Yara Shahidi, Zoe Saldana, The Lejonhjarta Twins, Letitia Wright, Bria Vinaite, Emma Roberts, SYD and Michelle Rodriguez. Drake’s untitled 5th solo LP is expected to arrive later this year. Out now on iTunes and Apple Music, stream the 6 God’s new soulful offering below.
