How Dawn Heideman and Terry Green is impacting Columbus, Ohio students plus Think Make Live Youth and Youth Build's Upcoming Programs for Ages 18-24

I was invited out to attend a Think Make Live Youth Program at Linden-McKinley STEM Academ, located in South Linden, Columbus, Ohio and is part of the Columbus City Schools District. Terry Green, the founder of Think Make Live Youth, spoke to students about the organizations five year history of working with youth in Columbus, and the various programs that they offer, many of which are paid opportunities.
Dawn Heideman, a 2017 Jefferson Award Winner, is the founder of Be The One, which provides students with the tools needed to experience success while creating a safe space and becoming a second family.
“I was always drawn to the kids who had fallen through the cracks and maybe weren’t really successful academically or behavior-wise,” said Heideman, who started her career as a math teacher.
“It’s been so odd in my career. Where some teachers—not all, but some—scrap to get the honors classes and things like that, I’ve always been drawn to the kid that struggles, because I find that their struggle isn’t a lack of intelligence or lack of ability. Usually it’s outside issues or the trauma they’re bringing to the table that is almost making a barrier to their learning. I just love those kids. I bond with those kids best.” Dawn said to USA Today news in 2020.
