New Research Shows a Rising Number of University Students Are From Poor Families

5/28/2019

New research conducted and published by the Pew Research Center has found an increase in the percentage of low-income students at universities. Compared to data from 1996, Pew found that a much larger share of students are in or near poverty. This increase could be due to the uptick in university attendance and the emphasis on financial aid and scholarships for students.

The study also found that racial and ethnic minorities are increasing as a share of undergraduate students. This means we are experiencing some of the most diverse university classes in history with students coming from all different walks of life.

Apple Unveils Plans for a New IPod Touch

5/28/2019

Picture
This morning Apple revealed that they are planning on releasing a new iPod Touch this year. This model is a follow up to the last new model released in July of 2015. This model is a blast from the past as it features a regular aux port and home button at the bottom. The model boasts a 4 inch retina screen along with an A10 chip, the same as in the newest iPhones, and comes in with 3 different storage models, 32 gigabytes for $199, 128 gigabytes for $299 and a 256 gigabyte model for $399. This definitely came unexpectedly as we haven't seen one in four years but maybe there's something there that Apple sees and we don't. Will you be buying one?

Wendy's and GasBuddy combine to create new "Badges" feature

5/28/2019

Picture
Wendy's has come together with GasBuddy to create the new "Badge" that benefits both the restaurant and the GasBuddy app. Since gas prices are currently raising nationally and people are looking for ways to save money, the GasBuddy app helps people find the cheapest gas within the nearest proximity of the driver. Wendy's gets involved by GasBuddy correlating the cheapest gas within proximity to a Wendy's restaurant. This way, people are more obligated to stop at a Wendy's when they go to get gas. With cheap prices starting to become a necessity for people, the badge feature is the perfect way to help drive up sales for the companies and cut down costs for customers.

The line is selling fast with customers loving the bulky designs, bright colors, mirrored soles and strategically placed cuts. You're gonna want to get these before they're gone.

For the first time in Columbus history, Parsons Avenue will be shut down, for a celebration!

5/1/2019

Picture
From a press release by Community Development for All People.

This Saturday, we're going to make history.

For the first time in Columbus history, parts of Parsons Avenue will be shut down. Not for street repairs. We're shutting it down to celebrate Parsons - and the whole South Side - as a diverse and inclusive community for all.

Twenty-five different businesses and organizations on Parsons will be participating, and another 30+ organizations will have a presence at our Festival as well. We're all coming together to say that Parsons is no longer a dividing line between neighborhoods. It's now a place where all people can come together.

Sounds pretty cool, right? We're going to have live entertainment and lots of stuff for the kids to do (yes, there will be a bounce house!). So please join us from 10am-4pm on Saturday, May 4, and be part of Columbus history!

Click here for more information, including a full schedule of events.

See you there!
Rev. John Edgar, Executive Director for Community Development, will be a guest speaker at Collaborate and Elevate on May 30th! Click here to R.S.V.P.
