 On The Basis of Sex is based off of the life and early court cases of Ruth Bater Ginsburg, current Supreme Court Justice. The movie follows Ginsburg as she finishes law school with her husband, Martin, and tries to find a job at a law firm after school. She eventually goes to work at the Rutgers Law School, when Martin brings a court case to her attention. The case was based off of the idea that men should go to work and women are supposed to take care of the home and children, being the caregivers. Ginsburg pursues this case and takes it to the Supreme Court in an effort to transform societies ideas of gender roles.
