Comethazine’s New Name: East St. Louis, Illinois Rapper Is Now Frank Kole
The “Walk” rapper traded trap for guitars and trumpet. Here is when the switch happened and what he’s released since.
Comethazine’s new name is Frank Kole. The East St. Louis, Illinois rapper born Frank Childress, who blew up in 2018 with the viral hit “Walk,” dropped the Comethazine name after his Bawskee run and now makes alternative rock and jazz-leaning music as Frank Kole. That is Kole with a K, even though plenty of fans search it as Frank Cole.
Where is Comethazine from?
Childress was born July 6, 1998, and came up in East St. Louis, Illinois. His SoundCloud breakthrough came with “Hella Choppers” in October 2017, and “Might Cop,” posted on the Eleven YouTube page, got music executives paying attention. He went on to release his projects through Alamo Records and later launched his own imprint, Hench Mafia Records, in 2019.
Comethazine’s breakout songs
“Walk” is the one everybody remembers. The 2018 single came with a Cole Bennett-directed Lyrical Lemonade video, climbed to No. 20 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100, went platinum and also exists in a version with A$AP Rocky. “Bands” went gold after an early 2018 SoundCloud glitch swapped it in for YBN Nahmir’s “Bounce Out with That,” sending a wave of new ears his way. Both landed on his debut mixtape Bawskee in August 2018. From there came Bawskee 2, Bawskee 3.5, the album Pandemic in March 2020, Bawskee 4, Comethazine the Album in October 2021 and Bawskee 5 in November 2022.
When did Comethazine change his name to Frank Kole?
After Bawskee 5, he went quiet. In March 2024, HotNewHipHop reported he had resurfaced on Instagram after a two-year break, rocking a mustache and a ’70s rock-star look and showing off guitar work. The Frank Kole name followed with his first single under it, “Smokestack Lightning,” in October 2024. He has not publicly explained why he made the switch, and no outlet we checked has a reason on record.
What has Frank Kole released?
“Smokestack Lightning” is still the only Frank Kole song on streaming platforms, according to Elicit Magazine in February 2026. Most of the new era lives on YouTube, under the channel Franzkole. There he plays several instruments, including trumpet on a jazz take of Joseph Kosma’s standard “Autumn Leaves” with a pianist. We covered that clip when it landed in November 2025: Frank Kole, formerly known as Comethazine, drops music video for “Autumn Leaves”. In January 2026 he followed it with a visualizer for “Feels of Rhien.”
