Navz-47 Brings Tamil Hip-Hop to Rolling Loud India 2026: The Jaffna-Born Rapper to Know

Born in Sri Lanka, raised in Canada, and rapping in Tamil on a global stage.

Tamil hip-hop is having a moment, and Navz-47 is one of the voices pushing it onto bigger stages. On December 13 she lands at Rolling Loud India.

From Jaffna to Canada

Navz-47 is Naveeni Athanasious Philip, a rapper, singer and songwriter born in Sri Lanka. According to Homegrown, her Tamil parents left Jaffna during the civil war and settled in Canada when she was about 10. Her mother, Nanthini, was a Tamil radio jockey, and Tamil stayed the language of the home, a choice that shows up in everything she makes.

The sound

Her music blends Tamil and Western culture, rap and melody, with a visual style Homegrown calls avant-garde and distinctly Tamil-influenced. In a space where women have been underrepresented in Tamil-language hip-hop, she stands out.

Songs to know

  • "Pattasu", her breakout. The title means "fireworks," and its video, built on Tamil kuthu beats, made her a name in the Tamil community.
  • "Neeye Oli" (2021), with Shan Vincent de Paul and Santhosh Narayanan. Its music video was nominated for a 2022 Juno Award in the music video category.
  • "Heaven" (2019), an earlier single with Shan Vincent de Paul.

She has also worked with Cartel Madras and Rolex Rasathy, and contributed to Tamil film music.

Why catch the set

India has long been a global capital for regional-language rap, and a diaspora artist who carries Tamil into every verse fits the moment perfectly. Expect bilingual swagger, heavy percussion and a reminder that hip-hop travels with its roots intact.

When and where

Navz-47 is on the Sunday, December 13 lineup, the same day as Karan Aujla, Skepta and ScHoolboy Q. Rolling Loud India runs December 12-13 in Mumbai, with tickets on the District app; the venue is still to be announced. Get the latest at rollingloud.com/india.
