New Research Shows a Rising Number of University Students Are From Poor Families
New research conducted and published by the Pew Research Center has found an increase in the percentage of low-income students at universities. Compared to data from 1996, Pew found that a much larger share of students are in or near poverty. This increase could be due to the uptick in university attendance and the emphasis on financial aid and scholarships for students.

The study also found that racial and ethnic minorities are increasing as a share of undergraduate students. This means we are experiencing some of the most diverse university classes in history with students coming from all different walks of life.
