Pandektes Raises $15.8M Series A Led by Alstin Capital for AI Legal Research

The Copenhagen startup says revenue grew sixfold in a year and now plans to take its legal data platform across Europe and into North America.

Pandektes, a Copenhagen-based legal research startup, has raised €13.5 million, about $15.8 million, in a Series A round led by Munich-based Alstin Capital. PROfounders and Scale Capital also joined the round alongside existing investors. The raise was first reported by The Next Web.

The funding follows a €2.9 million seed round announced in February 2025 and comes after a year in which the company says its revenue grew sixfold.

What Pandektes Does

Pandektes builds an AI-powered research platform for lawyers. It gathers legislation, court decisions and administrative rulings into one place, structures that material and links related documents together, so that a lawyer looking for relevant case law can search across sources that are normally scattered among government sites and legacy databases. The platform can also combine those public sources with a client's own data.

The company was founded by CEO Casper Laursen and Søren Brokær. Its pitch is that the quality of any AI legal product depends on the data underneath it, and that the foundational work of collecting and organizing legal information is where a lasting advantage is built.

Growth So Far

Pandektes is active in Denmark, Germany and Switzerland and says it is used by more than 500 law firms, companies and public institutions. That is up from roughly 100 organizations around the time of its seed round. According to the company, about two of every three organizations that trial the product become paying customers.

Those numbers helped draw Alstin Capital. Managing partner Andreas Schenk told The Next Web that legal research is an unusual market, one where many users have long wanted to replace their core system and had no practical alternative.

How the Money Will Be Used

The company plans to use the Series A to expand beyond its three current markets into more of Europe and into North America, and to grow its team. As EU-Startups reported, Pandektes also intends to open its data through an API, allowing third-party developers to build their own legal tools on top of its infrastructure.

That last piece signals a broader ambition. Rather than competing only as a search product for law firms, Pandektes wants to become the data layer that other legal AI products rely on.

Why It Matters

Legal research has been dominated for decades by a small number of incumbent database providers. Generative AI has opened the category to challengers, and investors have poured money into legal tech as a result. Most of that attention has gone to AI assistants that draft and review documents. Pandektes is working on the layer below: clean, connected, current legal data, country by country.

That work is slow and specific to each jurisdiction, which makes it harder to copy. If the company can repeat its Nordic and German-speaking results in larger markets, a $15.8 million Series A gives it a base from which to challenge much bigger rivals.
