Sekou Opens Up About Heartbreak on "Does She Know" — and the Honesty Hits Hard
The British-Ivorian soul star kicks off his new mixtape In A World We Don't Belong Pt. 2 with a vulnerable confrontation of double-dealing love.
"Does She Know" opens Sekou's new mixtape In A World We Don't Belong Pt. 2, finding the rising vocalist confronting a potential partner living a double life: "If she was my girl, I would tell her the truth," he sings. Reflecting on the track, Sekou explained, "Sometimes in life you will meet people who will just feed you everything you want to hear," and that the song captures finally discovering someone's true colors after initially being blinded by what you wanted to hear.
Born Sekou Sylla on September 18, 2004, in Leicestershire, England, the British-Ivorian singer is known for his soulful, raspy voice and deeply honest songwriting, blending R&B, jazz, and pop — earning him a 2024 BRIT Award nomination for Rising Star. The mixtape arrives as Sekou continues a massive 2026, having opened for Sam Smith at his San Francisco residency, made his BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge debut, and embarked on his first U.S. headline tour before upcoming stops at Montreux Jazz Festival, All Points East, and a December 14 headline show at London's KOKO.
