Sunfox Technologies Raises $7M Series A to Scale Spandan Portable ECG

The Dehradun medtech has put 60,000 smartphone-based ECG devices into more than 20,000 Indian villages and now wants to go global.

Sunfox Technologies, the Indian medtech company behind the Spandan portable ECG, has raised $7 million in a Series A round to scale its cardiac diagnostics platform. Investors include Ashish Kacholia, Lashit Sanghvi, Alchemy Capital and 3one4 Capital, YourStory reported. The round is worth about 67 crore rupees.

The Dehradun company plans to use the money to deepen its reach in India and to begin building a presence in the United States, Europe and Africa.

What Sunfox Technologies Makes

Sunfox builds cardiac diagnostics tools under the Spandan brand. Its core product is a compact ECG device that works with a smartphone, turning a phone into a tool that can record a heart tracing and flag signs of a heart attack. The platform also supports remote interpretation, so a reading taken in one place can be reviewed by a clinician somewhere else.

The company sells versions for personal use, for clinics and for institutions. That range lets the same underlying technology serve an individual monitoring a heart condition at home, a doctor in a small practice and a public health program screening large populations.

Spandan by the Numbers

Sunfox says 60,000 Spandan devices have been deployed across India, reaching more than 20,000 villages. The platform is used to screen approximately 5 million patients a year.

Those figures point to where the product has found its footing. A conventional ECG machine is costly, needs a trained operator and is often unavailable outside larger hospitals. In rural areas, a patient with chest pain may be hours from the nearest one. A low-cost device that works with a phone changes who can perform the test and where.

From Dehradun to Global Markets

Founded in 2016, Sunfox is led by founder and CEO Rajat Jain. The founding team also includes Arpit Jain, Sabit Rawat, Nitin Chandola and Saurabh Badola. Building a medical device company from Dehradun, far from India's main startup hubs, has been part of its identity.

"This round gives us the resources to take what we have built in Dehradun to a much larger stage," Jain said.

How Sunfox Will Use the $7M

The company plans to expand further within India, develop a global go-to-market strategy, scale research and development, and build regulatory and distribution capabilities in the US, Europe and Africa.

The regulatory work is the gating factor for international growth. Selling a medical device in the United States or the European Union requires clearances that take time and money to obtain, and distribution in each market has to be built largely from scratch.

Why the Sunfox Funding Matters

Heart disease is a leading cause of death worldwide, and early detection depends on getting a basic test to people quickly. In much of the world, access to that test remains the bottleneck.

Sunfox has shown that an affordable, portable ECG can reach patients at scale in a country with wide gaps in healthcare infrastructure. The next question is whether a product proven in Indian villages can win approval and customers in markets with very different health systems. The new funding gives the company room to find out.
