The Spindoctor Prescribes Hip-Hop at Rolling Loud India 2026: Mumbai's DJ-Turned-Doctor

A Gully Gang turntablist who also spent time on the COVID frontline.

Few artists on the Rolling Loud India poster have trained as doctors. The Spindoctor has, and on Sunday, December 13, the Mumbai turntablist brings his scratches and beat juggles to Rolling Loud India.

Doctor first, DJ forever

The Spindoctor is Sanjay Meriya. As Homegrown reported in 2021, he started DJing as a student to escape medical school pressure, then realized he was good enough to go pro. He studied medicine for five and a half years, and VICE noted he has been a full-time DJ since 2017.

Gully Gang royalty

He is a core member of the Gully Gang, the Mumbai crew Divine assembled to help push India's underground rap scene toward the mainstream. Known as an expert turntablist, he is skilled in beat mixing, scratching, beat juggling, and drumming, and he teaches turntablism at The True School of Music in Mumbai. He has shared stages with Tyga and DJ Stretch Armstrong.

The COVID chapter

In March 2020, a 10-city US tour was lined up. The pandemic canceled it, and he returned to medicine, screening symptomatic patients at a makeshift clinic in Mumbai's Andheri East and Goregaon. VICE reported he screened more than 100 patients a day and kept his identity hidden. It is a rare story of a DJ who quite literally turned frontline worker.

Why catch the set

Expect a technical set from someone who treats the turntable like an instrument. For fans of Mumbai's gully rap era, this is a chance to see one of the scene's architects behind the decks on a Sunday bill that also features Karan Aujla and Seedhe Maut.
