Thee Sacred Souls Dropped 'Any Old Fool,' Then Took San Diego, California Sweet Soul to Amphitheaters
From garage jams to a headlining amphitheater tour, here's how San Diego's Thee Sacred Souls built a sweet soul career on Daptone Records.
San Diego, California soul trio Thee Sacred Souls took their sweet soul sound to bigger rooms in 2026. They dropped the Daptone 45 "Any Old Fool" in April, then headlined the Constellation Tour, an amphitheater run across North America that booked a hometown date at Gallagher Square at Petco Park on Aug. 28.
From a San Diego garage to Daptone
Drummer Alex Garcia and bassist Sal Samano met in 2018 when their bands shared a bill, Relix reported, and started jamming in Garcia's San Diego garage over a shared love of Chicano soul, the Westside Sound and local lowrider culture. The San Diego Reader says Garcia is from Chula Vista and Samano from Imperial Beach, and that the pair began cutting rhythm-track demos in 2019.
Singer Josh Lane, a Sacramento native who moved to San Diego in 2017, connected with Garcia over Instagram and came over to jam in early 2019. They played their first show at a friend's record shop. Daptone co-founder Gabe Roth caught their second gig and told them they "should make a record," per Relix.
The Reader adds that the band's name partly nods to Chicano rock band Thee Midniters.
"Any Old Fool" and the catalog so far
Daptone released the band's self-titled debut, produced by Gabriel Roth, in 2022 and Got a Story to Tell on Oct. 16, 2024. On April 10, 2026, the label issued "Any Old Fool," a previously unreleased love song built on a raw bassline and hard-hitting drums, digitally and on 45.
Live Nation's tour announcement credits the band with NPR's Tiny Desk, Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, plus more than eight million monthly Spotify listeners. It also notes two sold-out nights at Los Angeles's Greek Theatre on April 22 and 23, 2026.
The Constellation Tour
LA LOM, the Los Angeles trio blending vintage cumbia, bolero and rock, and The Womack Sisters, granddaughters of Sam Cooke who also record for Daptone, joined the run. The announced routing ran from Calgary on Aug. 4 through Berkeley's Greek Theatre on Aug. 15 and the San Diego homecoming, to a final date on Sept. 26 at Chicago's Salt Shed.
Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia, billed its Sept. 17 show as the band's first-ever performance at the venue's Filene Center. The venue describes Thee Sacred Souls as a San Diego seven-piece, with the founding trio writing and performing the albums.
Thee Sacred Souls have 478K Instagram followers as of October 2026.
