They Went Viral Before TikTok Existed. Nearly 20 Years Later, the Trunk Boiz Are Back with Go Dumb

A 28-year-old producer remixed their 2007 anthem, and two Oakland cousins walked back into the booth.

In 2007, the Trunk Boiz owned Oakland. Cousins B*Janky and F.A. Tha Jefe released “Cupcake No Fillin’” and a pixelated “Scraper Bike” video that spread across the early internet. Then they went quiet.

Seiji Oda was nine years old when those songs hit. In 2025, the Oakland rapper and producer flipped “Cupcake No Fillin’” into “no fillins²,” and a new generation found the originals. The remix turned into “RIGHT BACK IN,” a nine-song project with Oda on production as the unofficial third Trunk Boi.

The sound is nothing like 2007. Oda layers voices, nature sounds, and sideshow noise over gentle drums, a style built on meditative hyphy and Japanese city pop. Most of it was recorded at Red Heron Studios in Oakland’s Chinatown.

Guests include Fijiiana on “Sky Scraper,” Michael Sneed on “KARMA,” and Cait La Dee on “Out There.” “GO DUMB!” nods to the hyphy era, with a video shot at the 510 Day festival.

The duo once scrapped a project because it was too negative. This one was made to uplift. Watch below:
