WATER Raises $2.5M Seed to Build an AI Model That Reads the Human Body
The Hyderabad startup wants its VORTEX model to become the intelligence layer under chairs, beds and eventually car and aircraft seats.
Hyderabad-based WATER Robotics has raised $2.5 million in seed funding to build what it calls a foundational model for surfaces that sense and respond to the human body.
The round, announced on August 24, 2026, was led by Endiya Partners, with participation from India's chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, Darwinbox cofounder Rohit Chennamaneni and Swiggy cofounder Nandan Reddy, plus unnamed angel investors. The company was founded in 2024 by Teja Vinukollu, who serves as CEO, and Haneesh Mourya Desu. No valuation was disclosed. Global deal feeds list the round at $3 million; every press report puts it at $2.5 million, roughly Rs 24 crore.
What WATER is building
WATER describes itself as a physical AI company working on adaptive intelligent surfaces — furniture that reads a body in real time and reshapes itself around it. The sensing and response logic sits in an in-house foundational model the company calls VORTEX.
Two products carry it today. FLOW is an adaptive chair aimed at posture, movement and load during seated work; CAMA is an adaptive bed aimed at sleep, recovery and respiration. Vinukollu frames the bet in broad terms, saying intelligence in the physical world should upgrade the human being at the center of it. Internally the goal is described as a physical operating system for furniture and surfaces.
The numbers
The seed round is worth roughly Rs 24 crore. The hardware numbers are more specific than the financial ones: CAMA carries 10,752 pressure sensors and 42 actuators, which together let the bed detect and adjust to a sleeper's position as it changes.
WATER has not disclosed revenue, shipment volumes, user counts or a valuation, and none of the reporting on the round puts a figure on total capital raised to date. For a two-year-old hardware company, the round buys runway rather than validating traction.
Why the timing matters
That is roughly how the company is spending it. WATER says most of the capital goes to R&D, with a portion directed at data collection, and that the immediate priority is technical validation — specifically, proving that what VORTEX learns transfers across different products and different bodies. That transfer question is the whole thesis: a model that only works on one bed is a mattress feature, while one that generalizes is a licensable layer.
The company has said it is eyeing automotive and aviation as adjacent markets, where seats face the same problem of a human body held in one position for hours. Those are long, certification-heavy sales cycles, which is a reasonable read on why the first money is going into proving the model rather than into scaling a consumer bed.
