What's Haunting Keeymo? Inside 'Haunted Houses,' the Halloween Project Born on House Arrest
The Carolina-raised, Toronto-based artist turns a year tied to the house into a late-night-drive project, out Oct. 31 via Authentic Empire and Tha Lights Global.
Some projects are named for the season. Keeymo's "Haunted Houses" just happens to fit. The Carolina-raised, Toronto-based artist is dropping the project on all platforms on Halloween, Oct. 31, and the title comes from a much more personal place than costumes and candy.

Who Is Keeymo?
Keeymo started his music journey in 2017 while he was still living in Carolina. He moved to Toronto right before the COVID-19 pandemic, and that's when he fully locked in.
The years that followed were less about dropping songs and more about finding his lane. He spent that time figuring out his approach instead of putting out music, then revamped his artistry and left behind his earlier name, Kan Boy. Now, he says, he's here to stay.
The Story Behind "Haunted Houses"
"Haunted Houses" reflects the past year of Keeymo's life. He spent that stretch on house arrest, and being confined at home pushed him to reflect even further back on his life, where he says he noticed a lot of things others didn't.
That's where the title comes from. Being tied to the house, he explains, "it can get dark and lonely, kinda like a 'Haunted House.'"
Despite the heavy inspiration, the project was built for motion. Keeymo says he made the mood for late-night drives, a vibe that runs through "Ghost Town."
The Sound and the Credits
Keeymo's main producer and engineer, EA, gave each song on "Haunted Houses" its final touches. The tracks "MPO" and "Bobby Jones" feature Keeymo under his former alias, Kan Boy, a nod to the era before the revamp.
One standout bar comes from "Toronto" / "Ghost Town": "She's always with her work friends, I'm always with my church friends." Keeymo says the line is about trying to make it work with a girl who was always working against him.
The cover art leans all the way into the title: dripping orange lettering over a black-and-white photo of a house, framed by archival-style protest signs and newspaper headlines about housing discrimination.
