Whizzo Set to Raise $26M Series B: Is India Ready for a Technical Textiles Boom?
Aavishkaar Capital and Bertelsmann are reportedly co-leading the round, months after the Bengaluru startup's $15M Series A.
Technical textiles rarely make headlines, but they sit inside everything from highway embankments and farm netting to flame-retardant workwear. Bengaluru-based Whizzo wants to become the go-to manufacturing partner for that market, and it is reportedly lining up a fresh round of capital to do it.
Whizzo is in talks to raise around $26 million in a Series B round co-led by Aavishkaar Capital and Bertelsmann Investments, according to Inc42, which cited people familiar with the deal. Existing backers Fundamentum and Lightspeed Venture Partners are expected to participate. Whizzo did not respond to Inc42's questions before publication, so terms have not been confirmed.
What Whizzo Builds
Founded in 2024 by Shrestha Kukreja, Whizzo describes itself as a contract development and manufacturing organisation, or CDMO, for technical textiles, a model it claims is the first of its kind in India.
The pitch is consolidation. Brands and industrial buyers that need a specialized fabric typically juggle separate vendors for research, formulation, prototyping and production. Whizzo brings textile R&D, design, process engineering and commercial-scale manufacturing under one roof.
The company sells business-to-business and produces materials for geotextiles, agricultural textiles, protective and flame-retardant fabrics, specialty yarns, engineered apparel textiles and industrial composites. It also develops proprietary textile blends and says it pairs sustainability goals with materials science. Whizzo serves clients in India, Vietnam, China and Bangladesh.
A Fast Funding Clip
If the round closes, it would cap an unusually quick run for a company that is barely two years old.
Whizzo raised a seed round led by Lightspeed and a maiden institutional round in January 2025 that funded advanced R&D, a design lab for fashion-engineered textiles and supply chain expansion. Roughly six months ago, it closed a Series A of about $15 million led by Fundamentum, with Korea's LB Investment and Lightspeed participating. That money was earmarked for building in-house materials science IP.
A $26 million Series B would push Whizzo's total funding past $40 million.
Why Investors Are Leaning In
India has been pushing to grow its manufacturing base and capture more of the global supply chain as buyers diversify their sourcing. Technical textiles have been a stated policy priority, and the category offers higher margins than commodity apparel because performance specifications are harder to replicate.
A CDMO model also gives Whizzo a structural advantage. Once a client's material is developed and qualified on Whizzo's lines, switching suppliers becomes costly. That stickiness is part of what makes contract manufacturers attractive to growth investors in pharma and electronics, and Whizzo is applying the same playbook to fabrics.
Aavishkaar Capital brings impact-investing credentials and deep experience in Indian manufacturing, while Bertelsmann Investments has backed a range of Indian startups across sectors.
What to Watch
Whizzo has not disclosed revenue, capacity or client counts, and the round has not been formally announced. The key questions are whether the company can scale production while keeping its R&D edge, and whether demand from international buyers holds as it expands across Asia. A confirmed close would signal that investors see technical textiles as one of India's next serious manufacturing bets.
