Who Is Alla Igityan? The Software Engineer Writing Folk Songs
Born in Armenia, based in Berlin and writing 'folky songs about being human.' Meet the artist behind 'Things You Think About.'
By day, Alla Igityan writes code. In her spare time, she writes folk songs that have been quietly finding an audience. Her track "Things You Think About" is a great introduction to an artist whose own bio sums up her mission in five words: folky songs about being human.
Who Is Alla Igityan?
According to a 2024 profile by The Other Side Reviews, Alla Igityan was born in Armenia and moved to Germany in 2019, where she became part of Berlin's music community. She works as a software engineer and makes music in her spare time.
Her musical roots go back to childhood. The Other Side Reviews reported that she learned violin and took vocal lessons as a kid. Today, she writes and releases folk-pop.
Her Singles So Far
Alla built her catalog one song at a time. Her early singles included "Picture" and "Games," followed in 2024 by "Gay Crush." The Other Side Reviews explained that the artist described "Gay Crush" as being about having a crush on a gay man as a straight woman, an experience she frames as safe and fun even though the feelings aren't returned. The review called the song playful and upbeat with a bit of emotional vulnerability.
In January 2026, she followed up with "Peacekeeper," a song about people-pleasers who keep the peace while carrying everyone else's tension, according to The Other Side Reviews. It was produced by Charles Austin, with mixing and mastering by Sergey Gasparyan.
What Is "Things You Think About" About?
"Things You Think About" was released on April 25, 2025, and gives its name to her EP, which also includes "Games," "Gay Crush" and "Better."
The song is built around regret and the thoughts that sneak in at night. It opens in the voice of someone apologizing: they feel foolish, wish they hadn't treated a person badly, and admit they were scared and didn't realize how much losing that person would hurt. The song frames these as the thoughts that cross your mind every night, no matter what.
Then it shows the cover story. The same person insists they're keeping busy, traveling, having fun and trying new things, all to avoid thinking about the one they lost. It's a sharp, relatable picture of how people distract themselves from heartbreak, and how the feelings wait for the quiet moments anyway.
Why It Connects
"Things You Think About" has passed 19,000 plays on Spotify at the time of writing, and Alla draws nearly 2,900 monthly listeners. The appeal is easy to understand: it says the thing many people only admit to themselves late at night.
