Who is Ishii Qash? Detroit Rapper Gets ‘The Last Word’ on Her New EP
The Michigan State graduate pairs bars with a master’s degree in audience strategy, and teams with Ari B on “Queenpen.”
Ishii Qash treats rap as a business. Born Marquita Simpson, the Detroit rapper, songwriter, and model holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University and a master’s in digital audience strategy from Arizona State University.
Her EP “The Last Word” puts that discipline on record. The standout is “Queenpen,” a collaboration with fellow Detroit artist Ari B, an R&B singer whose single “LongWay” made the same Metro Times list.
The city is paying attention. FOX LOCAL Detroit sat down with her for an 18-minute interview titled “From ‘Rap Dawg’ to Detroit’s next big voice,” which covered the project and her ties to the city. She has also appeared in the Punchline Academy Lyric League Series, hosted by Shade 45’s Da Inphamus Amadeuz.
