Who Is Mary Ann Alexander? The Kerala-Raised R&B Voice Heading to Rolling Loud India

A Bengaluru-based singer-songwriter who has gone from Malayalam studio sessions to Craig David and Anderson .Paak.

Rolling Loud is a hip-hop festival, but India's version has room for the smoother side of the culture, and that is where Mary Ann Alexander fits in. The Thiruvananthapuram-raised, Bengaluru-based R&B singer-songwriter is on the Sunday, December 13 bill at Rolling Loud India.

Studio kid

Her father is a well-known voice in the Malayalam music industry, and per Rolling Stone India, he took her to recording sessions from age five; she was working as a studio artist by around seven. She wrote her first original song at 15, and filmmaker T.K. Rajeev Kumar heard it and wanted it for his Malayalam film Kolambi. After studying visual communication in Bengaluru, she began collaborating with the city's indie scene.

Songs to know

  • "In My Zone," her 2022 debut single, produced by Pranay Parti (ETV Bharat).
  • "Bling Bling" and "Good Girl," smooth R&B cuts.
  • "Commitments Pt 4" with Craig David and Tiwa Savage.
  • "Ulfat," her first Hindi song, from the film CTRL with Sneha Khanwalkar, and "Sthuthi" from Bougainvillea.

The 2025 run

Her profile jumped in 2025. Rolling Stone India reports she was the first Indian musician among 20 global artists at the second edition of Jameson Distilled Sounds in Ireland, curated by Anderson .Paak, and the first Indian female musician on DJ AG's session series in the UK. Her sound blends early-2000s R&B warmth, with Alicia Keys and Brandy cited as touchstones, with modern pop.

Why catch the set

Between Karan Aujla, Skepta and Seedhe Maut, a vocalist with real R&B control is a change of pace and a reminder of how wide the scene is. If you are new to her, spin "Good Girl" and "Bling Bling" before you go.
