On October 11, Greater Columbus Sister Cities International (GCSI) held their annual meeting at the Ohio State House Atrium. The event highlighted the importance of citizen diplomacy and its role in building diverse and inclusive communities as well as celebrated the accomplishments of the GCSI. The meeting included a panel which featured NBC4 newsanchor, Colleen Marshall, current Columbus mayor, Andrew Ginther, former mayors, Michael Coleman and Greg Lashutka as well as Shannon Hardin, Columbus City Council President. In this panel Mayor Ginther talked about the decision to grow Columbus' sister city relationships and the impact that they have had on the city and community. Maker Hour of Code was amazing last year with over a hundred families participating, and they want to widen their reach this year even more! Participate in this cool even by registering for space by Nov 1.
The event is free to attend, and there are opportunities to also participate as a  volunteer.

Brokemans Running Co. is a local Columbus running movement that is trying to bring the community together and promote physical and mental health. On November 4th they will be hosting a beer mile, where at every quarter mile mark runners need to chug a beer. Registration is $30 and 100% of profits from beer sales are going to a charity that they are passionate about. All finishers will recieve a Brokemans Beer Mile t-shirt and a finisher woodal coaster. The stars from the hit show ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ is doing a live show improv tour. The hit show is a improvised comedy show with content based off of solely audience suggestions. The live show will showcase longstanding improv done on the show as well as new skits and a musical. Last night Eminem went on Jimmy Kimmel's The Tonight Show, and performed his latest song 'Venom' which is featured in the hit movie 'Vemon' from the Empire State Building. The Obama Foundation, has launched a new program, The Global Girls Alliance. This new program works to empower adolescent girls from around the world through education, in an effort to let them achieve their full potential and allow for them to transform themselves and their communities. NextPlay is hosting their one year anniversary and invites you to share a toast with them on November 8th to celebrate a year of their accomplishments. NextPlay has gone from 0-4000 members, produced 11 events that led them to double digit hires, and have partnered with 17+ major tech companies. The event will take place from 6pm-10pm at the E-Sports arena in Oakland, Ca. The event has an 800 person capacity and admission will be facilitated on a rolling basis. Parsons Avenue Redevelopment Corporation is hosting their fourth annual fundraising event on October 25th. Shannon Hardin, the President of Columbus City Council will be the keynote speaker at the event. The goal of the event is to connect people to Parsons Avenue, a nonprofit organization that is aiming to change the south side of Columbus. There will be food and refreshments served and the event will go from 5:30-7:30pm. Any donations made during the event will help support the redevelopment of Parsons Avenue. Easton Town Center will be hosting a Fall Food Truck event on Friday, October 12th. There will be over 20 food trucks at the event and beers will be poured from World of Beer. The Festival For Good will take place on Saturday October 13th in Franklinton, Ohio. The Festival For Good celebrates social entrepreneurship and will be bringing together local business that support a social cause. Forbes and their partner Revolution have created a list of ten emerging cities for startups that are set to thrive in the future. The goal of identifying these cities is to highlight areas where the costs for beginning these startup companies is more attainable than places like Silicone Valley. Forbes set out to compare the 30 largest metro areas, eliminating the the 10 metro areas that had received the most amount of VC funding over the past 3 years. The area’s education levels, college presence, entrepreneurship rates, working-age population growth and centre capital investments were all compared to determine the best cities. Columbus, Ohio was identified as the number one location for rising startups. Columbus scored high due to the large college presence, low cost of living, increase in VC deals, and a large amount of funds started. To read more about the study visit the full article here.
